Australian Bangladesh Sports & Cultural Association Inc. (ABSCA) has born with 60 years of experience though being the new kid in the block. The ABSCA Inc. board members have 60 years of combined experience in organising, playing, managing tournament in Bangladesh and Sydney. It is formed to enrich the sport and cultural heritage for the Bangladeshi community living in Australia.

In 1996 some visionary Bangladeshi people thought of having Sunday park cricket while the boys played, they would gather around the tree shade sharing their life and work experience in the new county, the girls would roam in the park while the ladies would enjoy the freedom from daily grinds and share home cooked lunch.

Previously what was a park cricket has now become a hugely successful tournament in the ensuing years. Now it is popularly known as Bangladesh Gold Cup, which was played up to by 20 teams every week ends in 5 creases every summer. While 300 players come to play another few hundreds of spectators come to watch the matches. There was no dearth of excitement and the tournament is now a part of the yearly community calendar.

The community tournament is affiliated to Cricket NSW, under Mosaic Cricket Association and a partner of Sydney Thunder. Currently the tournament is played in professional fields with grade A umpires, full insurance coverage, training facilities. Electronic scoring has been introduced for accurate and quick updates on player’s performance. To meet the growing demand and allow more teams to participate it was decided by some teams to organise Australian Bangladesh Sports & Cultural Association dedicated to the development of sports and cultural activities for the Bangladeshi community.
